Pirita Beach is an example of semi-sheltered bayhead beaches on the northern coast of Estonia that are sheltered from a large part of predominant strong winds. Such beaches are usually formed from ancient sand bodies and have a characteristic step-like evolution. A specific feature of Pirita Beach is that large coastal engineering structures have cut down the major supplies of sand to the beach and it suffers from sediment deficit. The key results of a numerical study of longshore sediment transport are presented.
