  The existence of traveling “non-reflective” wave solutions of a linear one-dimensional
  wave equation, with variable speed, is studied. Similar to waves propagating in homogeneous
  and weakly inhomogeneous media, such solutions can be found provided the variable wave speed
  satisfies certain conditions. Non-reflective waves with variable amplitudes and phases
  traveling in opposite directions can be found as solutions of the Cauchy problem.
  It is shown that the solution exists on finite time only.
