Soomere and I.\u00a0Puura.<\/p>\n<p><strong>18-20\u00a0September\u00a02011,<\/strong>\u00a0INTERNATIONAL SUMMMER SCHOOL<\/p>\n<p>The BalticWay team of the Wave Engineering Laboratory organised the international summer school &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/wavelab.taltech.ee\/?page_id=338\">Preventive methods for coastal protection<\/a>&#8221; jointly with the Geophysical Sciences department of Klaipeda University in Klaipeda on 18\u201320 September 2011.<\/p>\n<p>The school was dedicated to novel methods for coastal protection and maritime spatial planning developed within the BalticWay project. The focus was on techniques that use the intrinsic dynamics of ocean currents for the management of environmental risks in the context of the ever increasing human impact on various vulnerable sea areas. Particular treatment was given to the risks associated with potential oil pollution from ship traffic or oil platforms. The ever increasing potential of such risks calls for out-of-the box thinking towards safe management of the maritime activities and mitigating the impact of the associated risks on vulnerable areas.<\/p>\n<p>T.Soomere, E.Quak and T.Torsvik gave lectures to the summer school and B.Viikm\u00e4e, M.Vi\u0161ka, A.Giudici, K.Pindsoo, K.Kartau, M.Zujev, A.Rodin participated as students.<\/p>\n<p><strong>14\u00a0September\u00a02011,<\/strong>\u00a0LECTURES OUTSIDE INSTITUTE OF CYBERNETICS<\/p>\n<p>T.
